paint the planet red:

provisional government, 2350

Position paper submission form
Background Guide
The year is 2350. 12 years ago, the collective colonies of Mars declared independence from Earth under the divided leadership of the MIRF (Martian Independence Revolutionary Front) and the Martian People’s Party (MPP). After a 10 year-long independence war, the planet finally secured independence. In the time since, the Martian colonies united to create the Federative Republic of Mars and signed the Instrument of Planetary Independence, where Earth formally ceded its control over the Red Planet to the Martian people and established a baseline of governance for the planet, laying out tenets for a legislative and executive structure. Since then, Mars has set up a Provisional Government to stabilize the nation while it moves through this period of turmoil.

Mars faces many issues: one of the MIRF’s leading figures has taken the role of Consul (the head of state) of Mars with his war hero status. Now, democratic backsliding seems apparent, with the Consul and his faction attempting to enforce their vision for Mars' future over a government and populace. In addition, the economy of Mars suffered greatly during the war, and continues to struggle to get back on track. It is up to the Provisional Government of Mars, consisting of government officials from the Martian Regions and newly established Martian Congress, military officers, and important private group representatives to ensure that the Martians' newly found independence will have a future. Will they succeed, and let the red planet grow into a new and free planetary powerhouse? Or will they fail and return to tyrannical hands- both Martian and Earther. That, delegates, is up to you.
