Human rights on track:

Picture
Background Guide
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a UN organization that codifies and works to protect human rights worldwide. With their meeting at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland (UNOG) from 22 February to 16 March 2026, the committee seeks to discuss how global human rights connect with our basic needs. Continuing debate over what countries' national sovereignty is to regulate and defend human rights is why we call the 61st session of the UNHRC. Delegates will be discussing the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation, as well as the human rights of refugees.

The first topic of this committee addresses the protections and access to the resources humans need to survive. Sanitation and safe drinking water are critical to survival, making them human rights, both to people within their own countries and to refugees in foreign nations. The second topic of this committee will focus on the wider scope of rights provided to refugees in the midst of global crises. Delegates will deal with the mechanisms by which the UNHRC can provide vital resources to refugees while contending with the host country’s own rights and wishes, as well as enforcing the protection of their rights. Together, delegates will work to get human rights on track!
